Research Health Endometriosis GLP-1
GLEAM: GLP-1 & Endometriosis Preprint Study
Pre-registered international survey (n=227) on endometriosis & adenomyosis symptom change during GLP-1 receptor agonist use. Reported improvement appeared largely independent of weight loss.
Pre-registered, international cross-sectional survey examining whether endometriosis and adenomyosis symptom change during GLP-1 receptor agonist (GLP-1 RA) use depends on how much weight is lost. Preprint on Research Square (not yet peer-reviewed).
Authors: Bas Baudoin & Lincey van Bakel.
Key findings
- 227 respondents; 63% reported symptom improvement during GLP-1 RA use.
- Improvement appeared largely independent of weight loss (adjusted odds ratio ≈ 1.02 per percentage-point of weight lost, near the null), including among those who lost little or no weight.
- Higher baseline BMI was associated with less reported improvement.
- Findings motivate a controlled trial, but GLP-1 RAs remain unapproved for endometriosis and carry risks for anyone seeking pregnancy.
